Sandwell Council's Cabinet has approved a Best Start in Life Plan setting out how local partners will work together to support children from pregnancy through their early years.
The plan centres on Sandwell's Best Start Family Hubs, which provide advice, activities and support to children, parents and carers in their local communities. Families can access multiple services in one location rather than seeking help from different providers separately.
How the plan works
The strategy brings together health services, schools, community groups and other partners to deliver joined-up support. The hubs will help families find the right support at the right time and will actively reach out to those who may need extra help.
The plan aligns with Sandwell's Child Friendly vision, which aims to keep children safe, healthy and happy while helping them achieve well in life.
Early support during pregnancy and the first years after birth is a focus of the plan. It aims to improve children's health, development and school readiness while supporting parents and carers.
Council commitment
Councillor Mona Khurana, Sandwell Council's Cabinet Member for Children and Families, said: "Every child deserves the best start in life. This plan shows our commitment to helping children and families from the very beginning."
