Sandwell Council has approved a new Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Policy designed to tackle anti-social behaviour and improve safety across the borough's neighbourhoods.
The policy was agreed during the final week of the council's Safer 6 campaign, which has focused on making the six towns safer and helping residents feel proud of where they live.
What the policy covers
The new policy sets out how the council will handle anti-social behaviour cases. It aims to support people affected by these problems, protect vulnerable residents, and take action against individuals whose behaviour is persistent, serious, or causes harm.
Investment in community safety
The council is backing the policy with additional investment in community safety measures. It has doubled the number of Anti-Social Behaviour Officers and is improving CCTV coverage across the borough.
The council is also working closely with police and other organisations to prevent crime and identify offenders.
Council's approach
Councillor Bob Jones, Cabinet Member for Environment and Enforcement, said the policy reflects resident concerns about anti-social behaviour including intimidation, property damage, illegal dumping, and anti-social activity affecting neighbours.
"When people need help to change their behaviour, we will offer support," Councillor Jones said. "But if someone continues to cause problems after being warned, we will use all the powers available to us to take action."
