Crocketts Community Primary School hosted a sustainability careers fair giving pupils hands-on introductions to green careers and future employment opportunities.
Pupils from Reception to Year 6 took part in activities led by Timio, Hadley Group, Serco, Sandwell Council, Canal & River Trust, Enfinium and Groundwork West Midlands. The event connected classroom learning with real-world career paths across recycling, renewable energy, horticulture, conservation, biodiversity, transport and healthcare.
Activities on the Day
Pupils took part in recycling challenges with Serco, planted flowers and vegetables, and built bug hotels. Children explored habitats in the school's Forest School and learned about careers in environmental protection and sustainability.
Sandwell Council's Clean Air Champion, Auntie Duck, worked with children to investigate air pollution case studies. Pupils discovered how electric vehicles and renewable energy technologies help reduce carbon emissions.
The Green Doctor bus visited the school to teach pupils about energy efficiency and sustainable homes, while offering advice and support to families after school.
Family Involvement
Parents played an active role throughout the day. Activities were livestreamed and families took part in a nature photography competition designed to encourage exploration of local green spaces. One parent shared professional expertise through a session on the safe disposal of batteries.

Headteacher Lynne Paino said: "Our aim is to help children make connections between what they learn today and the possibilities that could shape their future. We want every pupil to leave Crocketts believing there are no limits to what they can achieve, and events like this play a vital role in raising aspirations and broadening horizons."
Councillor Jack Sabharwal, Sandwell Council's Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said: "This careers fair gave young people a fantastic opportunity to explore the jobs of the future while learning about sustainability and environmental responsibility. By bringing together employers, community organisations and families, Crocketts Community Primary School has shown how schools can inspire ambition and help children understand the opportunities available to them."
The event forms part of the school's wider Careers for Learning programme, which aims to broaden aspirations, challenge stereotypes and help children understand the range of opportunities available to them in the future.
