West Bromwich Albion midfielder Toby Collyer has confirmed that manager James Morrison discussed his intention to bring him back to the Hawthorns in March, months before the summer transfer window.

The 22-year-old joined Albion on loan last season but an injury cut his time at the club short. He was subsequently loaned to Hull City in January and returned to the Hawthorns as an unused substitute for the Tigers in March.

Morrison used that opportunity to speak briefly with Collyer about his transfer plans. "After the game, he said if I get the job then I'll look to bring you back," Collyer told BBC WM Sport.

Morrison's Influence

Collyer has praised Morrison's "great personality" which he says has helped him develop as an individual and allowed him to share his own experiences with the team.

The former England Under-20 international spent time in Manchester United's youth sides before joining West Bromwich Albion. He credits that experience at a club under international scrutiny with helping him "grow up really quickly".

Collyer added that the pressure of playing at a club where results were not always strong has made him better equipped to handle difficult situations. "If situations ever aren't going too well, I've been in situations like that before where I can understand what to do to try and get the lads out of it," he said.
